Nokturnal Mortum, 2009 new work: "The Voice of Steel".

Well, such long time that I'd been waiting for 4 years. Nokturnal Mortum is still producing terrific stuff. Therefor it worth me to spend such time for waiting......and I have added this to my CD buy list.

Nokturnal Mortum's sense of Nazism is more advanced in this album; since the cover of CD and some titles of songs  regarded to Nordic Mythology. There is one of thoughts in Nazism is "return to the faith of ancient Germanic myth".( which are Nordic Mythology and Rune) That's the reason that I think NM is still so NSBM.

Unlike their previous work: "Nechrist", that was really obviously a Nazism sense and quite shallow one. (But I like this album so much!) "The voice of steel" is better, but still you can find some ideas that inherited from "Nechrist". And in the guitars' performance, I think they have merged rock 'n roll solo and speed metal style's riff in their black metal sense. That is a creativity.

Some recording problems in "Nechrist" that has been solved in "The Voice of Steel". The guitar tones in "Nehrist" were always very loud, sometimes was going too crazy and made the whole song ending of a sudden. (When they played jam.) But in this album, bass guitar and keyboard are more important for holding the song not to be too crazy. Even if they still played jam in some of  songs. This is another point that I like this album. Until I got this album,  I am very eager to see their live concert.

The fourth song: "Україна (Ukraine)", that is quite different style from usual Nokturnal Mortum. Since the song sounds like "Speed metal" format. Well, That's cool.

My favorite songs are: Valkyrie, Моєї Мрії Острови (My Dream Islands) and White Tower.

Mayhem/ Chimera

我說,真正殘暴的音樂是那些;過門不爽快;要過過不去,聽起來像便秘的鼓技。

如果說歌詞要寫的有深度才叫有意境,那麼Maniac所寫的歌詞偏要赤裸裸的將血腥無情的字眼,很狠的塞進你眼裡。叫你就算眼睛出血了也要看清楚他的怒吼......沒有太多的想像空間,就是要讓你感受痛苦、恐怖、混亂、死亡、撒旦的戲弄和血腥。這一直是Mayhem的拿手項目;從他們經典的DMDS一直到這張Chimera。不只是Hellhammer的三頭六臂,Maniac精湛的寫詞技巧,還有Blasphemer,Necrobucher的吉他跟Bass所營造出的危險氣氛,比起時下許多團利用KB的便利性所營造的氣氛相比:Blasphemer的吉他著實是一種精技了。若說,Hellhammer變化多端的鼓卻沒配上一個好的吉他手,那他也只能嘆「巧婦難為無米之炊」了。

一開始聽Chimera絕對不會認為他們只有四個人,因為音樂元素很豐富。Blasphemer不只寫主旋律,他連background的部分也包辦,我想應該也是由他自己演奏的。當然這樣子應該是有靠些錄音技巧,不然他們應該會請客座樂手。Maniac歌詞寫的算簡潔,我認為他是會為了寫詞而去體會痛苦的人,據說他在Mayhem這十年當中有幾次想要自殺(噱頭成分居多啦),但後來都只有自殘。與Dead不同;因為他是「為了血腥」這樣的理由死亡的(excuse all blood)。

如果說世上有人寫詞歌頌快樂,那麼Maniac便要提醒你這世上還是有痛苦的。從Dark night of the soul裡面Blasphemer與Hellhammer粗暴的前奏以及Necrobucher徘徊在底下那股濃密的bass好似暗黑森林裡的濃霧,襯著Maniac邪惡的嗓音訴說魔鬼的故事:前頭那具沒皮的屍體,那脆弱的靈魂正被魔鬼享受著,也許Maniac幻想那具無皮屍就是他自己,而他正在享受這種凌遲的快感。

這作品第一次聽有的人不認為好,也許是過去被DMDS制約了?但我覺得他其實用了不少特別的東西,Hellhammer在這張專輯裡面用了36種打擊樂器,有些名字我甚至沒聽過。Mayhem裡面待的最久的是Necrobucher,這Bass手好像從來就不曾被大家提起過,大家講的不是鼓手就是其他人。我問過挪威金屬頭對Mayhem的感覺,他們認為Mayhem的東西比以前更好,更有技巧了,不過也是有不少樂迷還是沈醉在緬懷DMDS專輯;認為Mayhem沒辦法再寫出這樣的經典。我想他們算是90年代的黑金宗師,也許在這樣的領頭角色下,思索有沒有更好的點子讓黑金屬繼續發揚下去,而不是一成不變的保留DMDS的元素,或許是他們該有的責任吧。

丈量世界

我在買到這本書後的兩個禮拜,利用空閒的時間讀完了,讀起來很順,還有點意猶未盡的感覺。
