Drudkh, from Ukraine. (This song from: Handful of Star, 2010)
I can't remember when I know about this one-man band. But I knew the first time I listened to it, I was very touched. Just like that first time I put the earphone in my ears listening to Ulver "Bergtatt - Et eeventyr i 5 capitler ". I wasn't very exciting but was sleepless that night. And now I doubt that any black metal in Norway would be like Drudkh as the earlier type of "Folk black metal". I mean, Drudkh does follow the old school style of "Folk black metal", and no wonder that Norwegian label: "season of mist" has signed him. Probably in Norway, Metal music player, especially in the black metal circle, are pursuing something new......something innovation.
I have almost listened to all of Drudkh's works. And none of them disappoint me. "Blood in our wells" is really remarkable work and almost establish his own style, later works are just better and better......but some flavors of Ukrainian musical elements seem to be less and less in his music, compare to "blood in our wells" and previous works.
Cheers.
